Man or Astroman?
Tour Banner
I attended the same university around the same time as Brian Teasley who created the band Man or Astroman? A surf rock outfit with a sci-fi edge. I did a few design projects for the band. I painted custom drum heads and this gigantic tour banner. It was used as a back drop for the band to play in front of. 7′ x 14′, Oil & Acrylic on Canvas. It had a very circus side show vibe in person as it was eerily lit while everyone waited for the band to take the stage. I sketched out the composition and then used an old projector to project it on the banner to create a rough outline. This also included some photos I took of the band wearing sketched out Happy Finger hats from “5,000 Fingers of Dr T” (seen below). From there it was all painted free hand. It took me a couple months and my room wreaked of turpentine for a full year afterwards. It was worth it. I even did another one.

The banner can be seen in the incredibly thorough book on the history of Seattle’s Estrus Records. I’m very honored to be in there with so many amazing pieces by Designer Art Chantry.
